New York (A)'s Purpura wins Player of the Week award
<a href=p452.html>Robert Purpura</a> wins his 1st Player 
of the Week award. American League pitchers couldn't 
figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Robert 
pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .560 with 2 HR and 
6 RBI while slugging .880. His season features a batting 
average of .302 (55 hits in 182 AB), 17 doubles, no 
triples and 8 taters. Purpura collected 30 RBI and 
25 runs as well. The National League Player of the 
Week award goes to <a href=p798.html>Randy Reilley</a>, 
San Diego's starting shortstop. He had an on base percentage 
of .545 and hit .524, while driving in 9 runs. He hit 
in every game this week and extended his hitting streak 
to 17 games. Randy is hitting .354 this year, with 
80 hits in 226 at bats. He has driven in 52 runs, slugging 
.602.
